Experience the richniess of Jozi like never before
Who Is Eugenie Drakes?
Born and raised in Johannesburg, my life has always been guided by curiosity. As a child, my favourite place was the staff quarters in my family’s home — where I learned traditional Zulu stories, tasted new foods, and listened to music that opened my world.
That early spark grew into a lifelong journey. In 2000, I opened Piece, a pioneering retail space selling contemporary handmade Southern African items. My work took me deep into rural communities, where I shared basic business skills, co-created market-driven products, and celebrated the wisdom of local artisans.
Since 2018, I have worked closely with young entrepreneurs driving positive change in their communities and in the economy.
After years of requests to share my adventures and insights, I’m now opening up my world through Where’s Eugenie Now: an invitation to explore, connect, and rediscover Johannesburg with me.
